Tony Collins was born in Australia and grew up in England. He has traveled extensively around Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia, and draws much of his inspiration for his artistic creations from these travels.
Art has always been an intrinsic part of his life, and Tony became interested in drawing, painting and constructing at a very early age.
He went on to study art, drafting, design, sculpture, metalwork and woodwork at Wymondham College in East Anglia, England.
Although Tony now enjoys working with a broad range of mediums including oil paint, charcoals, pastels, intaglio and screen printing, steel, copper, bronze, glass, wood and stone sculpture; his primary passion remains painting in oils.
In addition to creating art, Tony owns a metal design and fabrication studio in Dallas, Texas, with wife Holly, and designs and makes just about anything someone might need that is made of metal, glass, wood or concrete; from movie set props to bookends, screens, sofas, lamps, tables and beds, to staircases, poured-in-place concrete patio fireplaces, 21 foot-long chandeliers weighing 850 Lbs to custom store fixtures and much much more...
With a background in art and metalwork, and a keen eye for design that fits it’s function, Tony Collins’ creations are as distinctive and diverse as his talents, and his customer’s desires.
Besides creating art and cool stuff, two of Tony's other passions are traveling and competitive sailing. He has raced his Olson 30, Laser, Flying Scot and Sunfish at various regattas and venues since discovering the joys of sailboat racing after a momentary lapse in concentration and judgement ended his motorcycle racing days in 2004...
He currently races Sunfish on the Texas Sunfish Circuit, as well as nationally and internationally, and is proud to have been a member of the US Sailing team in the Sunfish World Championship's for the past five years, slowly climbing from 92nd in 2005, to 26th in 2010.
In 2008 and 2009, Tony was the Sunfish Southwest Regional State Champion of Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, most likely because Paul and Greg weren't sailing, but still...
He has raced in more than 90 regattas, from all around the USA, to Italy, Curaçao, Bermuda, Canada and Colombia! This November Tony is heading off once again to race in the South American Championship's, which are being held in Peru. Many of his sailing escapades result in beautiful abstract landscape and seascape oil paintings, and metal sculptures.
Tony has combined his passions, and has made travel and competitive sailing an important part of his artistic process...
In 2007, Tony and Holly bought a retired Frito-Lay factory just south of downtown Dallas in an artistic neighborhood called The Cedars. After a year of renovation, they opened a gallery and shop where they create and sell a wide variety of home furnishings, accessories and lighting. You’ll find Tony’s artwork, as well as the works of emerging artists from the Dallas area. There is also a wide selection of gift and home décor items carefully selected to complement an urban lifestyle.
